Committed to the Environment - Total Office achieves ISO14001:2004
19th May 2009There is a lot of lip-service paid to being environmental and most companies will try and avoid pollution that could cost them a fine, but better companies agree that doing just the minimum is no longer good enough.
At Total Office we are not satisfied with mere compliance to environmental legislation. We want to be proactive and to help our customers and suppliers alike in minimizing the impact of our business activities on the world at large. To support our commitment, Total Office has implemented a new environmental management system which is certified to the international standard ISO14001:2004 and carries the UKAS tick and crown.
We took a hard look at our business and carried out a root and branch evaluation of all we do and how it impacts the environment - from energy and fuel use to the management of packaging waste.
Efficient tracking software has been used to optimize our delivery routes so that we have fewer vans delivering more goods to reduce our use of diesel and lower carbon emissions whilst at the same time making a contribution to helping reduce congestion. Incoming waste cardboard and plastic pallet wrap are baled for recycling by approved waste recycling contractors to divert these materials from landfill.
We continue to expand the choice of environmentally-preferred products and make them readily available to our customers. We have developed a range of products under the umbrella 'Happy Planet', which are selected on the basis of meeting stringent environmental credentials and fair terms of trade.
ISO14001:2004 gives us the framework for continual improvement of our environmental performance.
